I’m in a Book Club that meets quarterly in Pudsey. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, we enjoy reading and wine together. I love it because it makes me read books I wouldn’t ordinarily choose to read.
I just read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson:
I wouldn’t normally describe myself as a fan of crime fiction (although having said that, some of my favourite books this year have been crime fiction – namely the Kate Atkinson Jackson Brodie series!) but this book was just unputdownable!
Ignore the unhelpful title which I don’t think does any justice to the story (I don’t think it’s the same title in Swedish), this is brilliantly written. With multiple plotlines and layers, all weaving together to create the most fantastic literary puzzle, believe the hype, this novel is well worth reading. It’s perfect holiday reading and also for commuting – which is when I’ve read it! The only problem with that is that I’ve wanted to stay on the bus rather than get off at my stop to go to work!
I won’t say any more as I wouldn’t want to spoil it for you but all I can say is that as soon as I finished this one I started the second in the trilogy – The Girl Who Played With Fire – immediately. Chain reading I think it’s called!
is this for your book club pick? or are you just reading it for fun? i loved it, but it’s a bit long for a book club i think. Have a look at the post I just made about Salander – don’t worry, it doesn’t give away anything, but you’ll definitely have something to think about as you read through 🙂 http://infloox.wordpress.com/2009/08/07/little-pippi-longstocking-all-grown-up/
